The 2009 silver proof set continues to sell at a extemely well as sales climbed by nearly 80,000 this week to a total of over 350,000. Considering the relatively high cost at nearly $53.00 each, those sales numbers become even more impressive. This year's set is priced at $8.00 more than last year’s, but it has been bolstered with a few bonus items, including an additional silver quarter and four bicentennial 2009 Lincoln cents specially struck in 95% copper, 3% zinc and 2% tin, which is the same alloy used in the original version of the 1909 penny.

Containing 18 coins, with each one bearing the United States Mint San Francisco Mint "S" mark the coins this year include: 4 Presidential $1 Coins honoring William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk and Zachary Taylor; a new Native American $1 Coin; 6 commemorative 1/4 dollar coins honoring the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories (Guam, American Samoa, the United States Virgin Islands, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico,); 4 Lincoln Bicentennial One-Cent Coins honoring the 200 year anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln along with the 5-cent Jefferson coin, Roosevelt dime and Kennedy half-dollar.

With a flat economy and a weak dollar, investor interest in silver bullion has seen a jump in recent weeks, showing clearly that the United States Mint’s recall during it's bullion allocation policy back in June truly was the result of it's difficulty in attaining adequate gold and silver blank inventory than any sign of the public's decrease in demand, as was speculated on by many news sites as of late.
