2010 Proof Silver Eagles
2010 saw the return of the American Silver Eagle Proof, the first release of the coins since August, 2008. In 2009, the Mint had released statements that they would not be able to produce enough Proof Silver Eagles to meet the anticipated demand of collectors, and the offering was canceled.
High demand around the world for silver bullion coins caused a continued shortage of silver blanks for the United States Mint, and this had a large impact on both the bullion and collector releases.
In 2010, the Mint managed to meet their required legal obligation to precious metals investors and also reconcile their obligation to coin enthusiasts. Pent-up demand by collectors resulted in a record number of bullion coins and proof coins being sold.
