How much is a silver coin worth?

January 26, 2010 · Posted in Silver Eagle Proof Questions

I have a silver coin from the US treasury - it has an eagle and stuff on it, and it's in a little plastic case and has never been opened. I think t's a 1oz silver bullion coin - how much is it worth?

It depends on the year. It sounds like a Silver Eagle, and if it is a proof coin, that is with a mirror-like background, it should be worth at least $27. This year’s proof Silver Eagles are selling at the mint for $31.50. The uncirculated Eagles, without the shiny background, are selling from the mint this year for $25.95 Some, depending on the year, are worth much more.

On ebay you can probably sell it for about 20-22 dollars. If its not an american eagle and its just a silver round, maybe you can get about 14-15 for it.

Value depends upon the year the coin was minted, and the condition of the coin (graded, ungraded, proof, uncirculated, error, etc).

Lots of different U.S. silver dollar coins have an eagle on the reverse side of the coin.
The “Silver Eagle” coin has been minted since 1986.
