Are proof coins more vaulable?

Experts only please. I want to buy an American Silver Eagle and was wondering if the uncirculated one is more valuable in the long run or the proof coin. I know the proof is $8 more expensive but do proof coins have a higher value later or are they more for their looks? Plus do you think the coin is a good one to buy as an investment or a hobby (or both)? Thanks for your help in advance.
The thing is I was thinking buying a Silver Eagle and I hope it turns out rare, but rare Morgan dollars are too expensive to buy now. do you know what I'm saying?

If you are buying the Silver Eagle, yes the proof version will be better in the long run.
The uncirculated version is basically just minted for a way to have an ounce of silver.
As far as collecting, there are more collectors and will be more collectors for the proof version. It should always carry a premium over the non proof.
The proof silver eagles are made for the collector market and have a much lower mintage than the uncirculated, which is basically for the silver investor market.Lets just pick a year say 1997, there were 4,295,004 uncirculated coins minted, but only 429,682 proofs minted that year. Just looking at the figures should give you the hint. Now, not always are proof coins going to be the best deal. When it come to the modern commemorative series, a lot of the uncirculated coins have real low mintage’s while the proofs has a real high mintage. So far the proof american eagles, come no where near the uncirculated in mintage. The wise buy is the proof, if bought through the mint at it’s original price. I don’t usually buy this type item and know paying more for them, after it is found out, they only made so many, is iffy. I would rather have a simi-key Morgan dollar any day or a nice bust half dollar.
