2010 American Silver Eagles

By mid-2010, American Silver Eagles have surpassed the 11 million mark, setting a record for the first four months of the year. In April alone, figures topped out at 2,170,000. Although April 2010 sales are forecast to dip below last year's record setting numbers, interest remains incredibly strong with collecting and investor continuing to grow.

With the increased demand for American Silver Eagles, there has been a concurrent rise in interest for American Proof Silver Eagle Proof coins. Proof Silver Eagle coins are a collectible version of the silver bullion coin released by the United States Mint. In the past, Proof coins have sold out quickly soon after release, and with only a limited number of coins in production each year, that could happen again this year.

The model for the obverse of the U.S. Mint's bullion and proof Silver Eagle is one of the most popular of American patterns, the Walking Liberty Silver Half-Dollar. This wonderful design shows Lady Liberty, covered in Old Glory and bearing laurel and oak branches as she steps proudly forward into a new day. "LIBERTY" is proudly stamped along the top of the Proof Silver Eagle and "IN GOD WE TRUST" is emblazoned near Liberty's calf.

The reverse of the Proof Silver Eagle has an American eagle with the heraldic shield holding an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other, as designed by John Mercanti. Just above the eagle is an upside down pyramid and 13 stars, each star representing one of the original 13 colonies. The eagle is surrounded by the words, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - 1 OZ FINE SILVER - ONE DOLLAR".

Only the best dies are employed in a very stringent procedure to produce the Proof American Eagle coins. The presses are fed manually, where the beautiful coin blanks are struck several times, providing a clean and crisp image. The process generates a pattern that seems to be lightly frosted across a brilliant mirror surface, so that each Proof Silver Eagle has its own unique appearance.

Your Proof Silver Eagle coin is carefully shipped in a stunning, midnight blue velvet protective case (shown right), complete with a Certificate of Authority from the United States Mint. The certificate guarantees the silver content, weight and purity of each Proof Silver Eagle, as assured by the United States government.
