Sorry NO, you are right. The US Mint did not produce a dedicated Silver set in those years, you would have to buy the silver 10 piece set. Invest in the latest Whitman 2010 U.S. coin red book.

Only an expert can do it. I believe they use silver solder. They have years of experience. It is not illegal to do it as long as no fraud takes place. You can not sell it as an undamaged coin, besides any coin repaired this way by the average person, will stick out anyway to collectors. You can get a piece of the solder from a jeweler. If you watch what you are doing and take your time and must have a steady hand, you can do it so that it don't look to bad. if a valuable coin don't do it but take it to a dealer who can send it in to be repaired by the pro's.

You can buy a metal punch at most hardware store and with a tap of a hammer you'll have a hole of the punch size in the coin.

It can be soldered. Take it to a jewelery repair shop. This is not a huge job and should not be very expensive. The coin will never have full value after being drilled, however.

Value depends upon the year the coin was minted, and the condition of the coin (graded, ungraded, proof, uncirculated, error, etc).

Lots of different U.S. silver dollar coins have an eagle on the reverse side of the coin.
The "Silver Eagle" coin has been minted since 1986.
